Master and slave?

Sorry if there is an explanation on this site, I did a search and couldn’t find what I needed. I have a Dell E510 with two burners, they are both on cable select. Does it make any difference if one was set to Master and one was set to slave? Are there any pros or cons to either setting?

If it’s working, it’s fine. Sometimes CS settings can contribute to a variety of issues, so for the sake of prevention, many folks use M-S settings. If you’re troubleshooting a problem, using M-S setting is a good step to take.

It’s just my reader keeps spinning forever, even though it’s done reading. It will literaly keep spinning until I eject it and I was wondering if it was maybe because I use cable select?

That’s sort of a drive-specific thing, but could also be due to having some software open that’s talking to the drive.
