HI, I have searched and researched many many forums and copied iso files and burnt CD's using Nero of isos from bootdisk.com and other places. Here is what I have and here is what I want to do and here is what keeps happening. I am getting a computer from an old ex (ahha, I know, sounds like trouble already). She bought it off ebay a few years back. It was loaded with Win XP but she didn't get any restore disks or original Windows XP disks with it.
I want to do a fresh install, so I went over to her house and copied all the necessary files in Windows XP to a folder. Her version is Windows XP Pro Corp ( I know, might have been a pirated one, but don't make that an issue, please) as she didn't know that. I paypalled and downloaded the XP cd bootable disk and tried that first and it worked, but I didn't understand how to use the command prompts effectively, except fdisk and format c.
So, I followed all the procedures from ElderGeeks, and other websites, adding image files (isos) and then the proper XP components. The cd's I burned won't boot on the used computer, well, the one from bootdisk.com will, but everytime I put a bootable one burned with Nero 6, it doesn't work. I did copy the XPkey and have that when it comes up but haven't had a chance to use it.
Please assist me with a step-by-step format to follow to accomplish this reinstall mission of Windows XP. If you need to redirect me fine, but I think I have hit all the possible sites. I know this can be done, but what is happening is there is some method that has to followed strictly for it to recognize the CD put in and that it is bootable....before the Windows XP install windows come up. Thanks for listening, will await your assistance, appreciated, psingman
