Make a backup of a DVD-9 movie

To make a backup of some of my movies, I used Nero Recode to shrink a DVD-9 into a single-layer DVD. Sometimes the movie part would shrink to only 60% of its original size.

My question is at what point would I see degradation of video/audio qualities in the playback?

Many people feel that anything below 80% is pushing it as far as video quality goes. On a standard tv, you won’t see any negligable loss of quality at 80%, but viewing on a big screen or hdtv, the compression will be more noticable, as compression increases. When viewing on them, some forum members will not settle for anything less than 100%, even if it means splitting the movie over 2 disks or using dl media.
