I just purchased a new Apple Mac Mini MD387LL/A, I do not have an Apple disk drive yet. I tried a Optiarc 7200S, that showed up on the computer, but ejects the disk( A Verbie) when I try to install it. Question is, are any drive other then the Apple Cd/dvds compatible?

To be honest I did not know the difference, but yes it plugs into a usb port.

Any recent optical drive is compatible with OS X, starting with OS X 10.5 (released in either 2007 or 2008). That shouldn’t be a problem.

What do you mean it ejected when you “installed” it? What were you trying to do?

Yes. And others I have tried have had the same results, except they did not eject the disks.

Hmm, that’s downright strange.

I know people’s built-in DVDRW drives eject media that the drive & OS cannot properly recognize.

Does the Optiarc work with ANY DVD-R (assuming these are -R)?

What does drvutil say about the drive?
