Can anyone help me with some info on DVD rewriters, please? I will be using it with a PowerMac G5 (dual 1.8Ghz G5 processors), running OSX 10.4.6 and Roxio Adaptec Toast 7.0; USB appears to be 1.0

What I need are some recommendations as to which rewriter to buy (I’m in the UK, so it needs to be Region 2) - bearing in mind that I live on disability, so I can only really look at the lower end of the price spectrum :(. Please e-mail me at: <removed>

Thank you for reading this and, hopefully, for a useful response!

The Powermac G5 should have USB 2.0 but why not replace the DVD writer built in the G5? You would just have to remove the new writer’s bezel to fit the new DVD-RW in the Powermac.

The Mac G5 (at least, the model I have) doesn’t have a DVD rewriter - it’s DVD-RO : it will write CDs only :frowning:

I can’t really complain about that - the machine was given to me by a friend who’d decided he didn’t like it (because it’s a Mac!).

As to the USB, I can’t find any info other than that the keyboard and mouse are 12 mB. It does have Firewire, though.

The Powermac G5 always had a DVD-writer called “superdrive”.
