Mac 3500AG Dual-layer burn problems

I know there has to be at least a few here who use Macs… :stuck_out_tongue:

When I burn a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc on my Mac, the burn seems to go through fine, but the finished disc is not mountable on macs or my set top players.
These discs are supposed to be approved media for the NEC-3500AG.
I have burned many hundreds of single layer DVD-R/+R’s without a problem.

My set-up:
Mac G4 1.5 Ghz 768 M. RAM
OS X Panther
Firewire NEC-3500AG Firmware 2.16 / MMC-3
Toast Titanium 6.0.7
Verbatim DVD+R DL
Failed attempts at 2X and 4X

At about $12 a pop, I can’t afford too many more tests with no success in sight.

Any Ideas?

You should use 2.06 or otherwise set the Book Type of DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM. This is the default setting for 2.06, while 2.16 uses the less compatible setting of DVD+R DL. Most older DVD-ROM and Set Top Players don’t know what the hell that is.

The NEC drive should be able to read the disc in either mode, if it doesn’t you have a problem with your authoring method.
