OK. Massive problems. The drive has never given me problems in the past and I have had it for about 8 or 9 months.

Went to burn a TY this morning with smartBurn on. Detected safe burning speed @ 40X.

Started burning, using latest nero, from a 700MB audio image, CPU usage went up to 100% (!) and buffer started fluctuating rapidly, drive light flashing orange, red, orange, red continuously.

It does this with all media I have tried.

The disc finishes burning (albeit at a terribly reduced burn speed), has MANY damaged sectors (yellow) and several RED.

This has only started happening in the past 2 to 3 days.

I have even tried a reinstall of WinXP Pro.

I took the drive out, sent it over to my mates place, we tested it out using Roxio ECD Creator 6 (YUK!)…and the drive works fine.

XP has re-set your drive to PIO, set it back to DMA.

Your powers of instant deduction were dead on…HOWEVER, it was not XP that the problem resided in…

I had to change it at the BIOS level for it to work. For some reason, after 8 or 9 days of being on constantly, the machine seemed to get a garbled BIOS, and settings for drive transfer modes were mixed up. Odd.

Thankyou again.
