LTR-52246S crashes Drive Image

Having just installed a new 52x drive, I’m surprised to see that Drive Image v5.1 will no longer run, it crashes while loading with a “causway error 09”. I have tried every conceivable IDE config, master/slave, etc., and it just will not run with the 52x LiteOn connected. My LTR-48125W causes no problems, and I even tried the 52x drive alone, same results.
Powerquest’s $30 “support” answer is to dissconnect the RW drive. I’m going to try D.I. version 2002, against my will, but i wondered if anyone with a 52x drive was using D.I.?

D.I. 2002 runs fine with the drive connected. Very strange, must be somethiing about the Mediatek chip? Or does D.I. have some built-in way to force you to upgrade?

CauseWay is a DOS extender used by the Euphoria programming language. This error has been associated with the use of imaging programs as well as RAM memory defects, and is more frequently seen with Win2000.

The error occurs when D.I. is loading off of the Caldera DOS floppy image that the program uses to boot itself, also when i run it off the D.I. boot floppys, and also when i run it from a Win98 boot floppy. (I keep a copy of the rescue floppy on a small FAT partition that I use to run DOS programs. It doesn’t seem to have much to do with Win2000, as Win2k has not loaded at that point. I’ve never run into a situatioin where DI would not run because of a non-supported CDRW drive, but that seems to be the case here.
the Powerquest KB articles all point to things like dynamic discs and other situations that do not exist here.

I have Drive Image 2002 and using it with the Liteon 52x gives me an error message while I am burning as though it were incompatible. It works fine when I was at 48x. I ended up buying NTI’s Drive Backup3. At least it works to backup. I haven’t used it to restore anything and I have a bad feeling about it. :bigsmile:

I’ve stopped using D.I. to write to CDR a while ago, very unreliable. As I keep a copy of the image on my HD anyway, I just burn that to CDR, much faster and reliable.
