LTR-48246S - my first lite-on, impressions and problems

Hello,
picked up this drive (as many did). It’s the Buslink,
purchased at BestBuy just before thanksgiving.
Installed it over the weekend. First thing I noticed, compared
to any other drive I’ve ever had, the tray opens very slowly.
It gets half way, then seems to slow even more.
It’s not a biggie, build quality seems quite good.

I can write to it using XP’s native burning and also Nero.

However, CDRWIN and Sony cdextrme say that the Lite-on is a
cdrom and of course, won’t write to it. Something to do with
Windows or the installation? Or is this purely an issue
with cdextrme and cdrwin?
Turnng off XP’s native burning doesn’t affect it al all.

Well, the software you mentioned must not be supporting the 48246S burner as yet. Try to get a update & things will be normal.

It is nothing to do with the Windows installation. Its a pure cdextrme and cdrwin issue.

Thanks for the info - I had some issues in my mind, because
I installed the drive and then updated the ASPI layer
(now undone) and it had the strangest effect of deleting all
prior restore points in XP. I have two XP partitions in this PC,
and it did it on both! Not sure if it was the physical installation or
ASPI, but that sure is odd.
You are right about the installations of cd extreme and cdrwin.
I send an email to Goldenhawk.com, but their web page is a little
disconcerting, I couldn’t find any history or any dates anywhere.
Has the product been discontitnued?
I downloaded the the Prassi update for cdextreme
(pxengine358.exe), it installed OK, but I got “error 9 -
subscript out of bounds” (what ever that is) when I tried to
run it. NOGO there.
I uninstalled cd extreme and installed the trial of Stomp
recordNOW max. Seems to be a clone of Sony cd extreme,
just cosmetic differences - but it works!

The other thing, although the Sony download page says
CD Extreme
will only work with Sony drives, it used to work fine with my old
TEAC cdw516eb - so I don’t know if that’s the issue or not.

i use sony extreme on my Lite-on LTR-16102B. Not just for Sony writers. :wink:

your burning is old.

davexnet has a more recent LTR-48246S burner.

e.g. Stomp RecordNow MAX identifies 40125W but not my 48125W or 48125S.
