LTR-4812W Problems w/ Fuji Media?

My Fuji media (the “good stuff”) will only burn at 16x while my Office Depot media (the “cheap stuff”) will burn fine at 48x. I am using the most recent firmware (S08).

Is there a known problem with this drive and Fuji media?

Anyone?

Is it really Taiyo Yuden?

the Fuji disc you have got might be the old stock from Fuji, which is actually the TY “X type” generation one. The disc is good for 32x speed writing if you turn off your Smart Burn!

My X-type TY burn at 40x!

And the Jaguar to 240km…

They are Taiyo Yuden. Info from CD-Identifier is as follows:

ATIP: 97m 24s 01f
Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

I did buy them about a year ago, so I guess they are just an older type that I need to turn Smart Burn off to use at a respectable speed?

By the way, these are the one year old Office Depot CDR’s that burn successfully at 48x w/ Smart Burn turned on:

ATIP: 97m 28s 22f
Disc Manufacturer: Multi Media Masters & Machinery SA
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)
