LTR - 40125W, 30% errors on CDRW´s, please help

Hi!

There is a problem with my new Liteon 40125W.
I have made surface scans with Nero CDSpeed on
two differnd brands of CDRW´s, with dramatic
results.Fist burn was ok, but after one erase,
the second burn gives more than 30% damaged
sectors at the end of the CD.

Brands are: Intenso CDRW700 10x Atip:97m 27s 04f
manufacturer: unknown
Platinum CDRW700 12x Atip:97m 10s 00f
manufacturer: TDK,Ritek,COMPUSA
Testet Firm: WS03 and WS05.
Comp: MB Abit BX6r2 with P-III 800/100
First IDE: 2 x HDD
Second IDE:LTR 40125W Master
Cyberdrive DVD 086D Slave
All drives DMA on, in bios and OS.

Is it the drive, witch is possibly not ok?
Should i return it?
Are there other user who made scans on CDRW
after the second burn?

A friend testet his LTR 12102b with another
Intenso CDRW700. Also bad results with
15% damaged sectors at the end.
In both cases the first burn was ok.
This thread maybe also interesting in the
CD-R(W) Mediaforum ( have not postet there,
because of crossposting )
If anything is wrong with my posting, please
excuse, it´s my first post in a forum.

Thanks,for information and help

Most CD-RW disc will give worse readability than CD-R discs so I think your findings is correct.

I’ve found Verbatim (mitsubishi chemicals) to be some of the best CD-RW discs.

Thanks for your fast answer OC-Freak.
I never made surfacescans on RW´s before, so I was
very surpriced to see all those yellow squares of
damaged sectors after 70% of the RW.
Maybe others can make a test with different media
or drive.
Next days I will buy a Verbatim, and make scans of
this one.

Thanks,

Doc,

I have a 32x Lite-On recorder. I was curious after reading your post and wrote about 600 mb to a Yamaha cd-rw at 12x in DAO. Scandisk showed 100% good with no damaged or unreadable blocks. Lite-On media check program showed the disk to be Mitsubishi.

Modred

Hi,

To make a long story short:

Staljin

Modred,

Have you made the test with a new RW out of the box, or was it used before, then complete erased and burned again.
When I burned mine the first time no errors there.
But after full erase and second burn these errors
occur. I used full capacity of 700Mb for the test,
because the first 60 - 70% of capacity have no errors.

Staljin,

In the thread you are linking, there is a complete
different disscusion.
I don´t have my drive overclocked, and I use the
Disks at the rated speed.
The main disscusion there was OC´ed drives and CDR
for speeds up to 48x.
Possible you mean that mediaquality is the point.

To all, please post a few results here.
I am a little worried, that my drive is not ok.

Thanks,

Doc Holiday

Doc,

The cd had been written to and erased on many occasions. I always use the quick erase in Nero.

I just used the same cd and after a quick erase burned the maximum amount it would hold. I then ran scandisk and got 100% good with no damaged or unreadable blocks. As before, DAO at 12x.

Hei,

Let me clarify my posts in a tread I linked.

First of I I was wondering if, by any chance, OC of my drive bringing along other improvments than speed as f. eks. improvment in writing quality.

I knew I was not going to buy CDs that are 48x certified so speed was not an issue in that post.

What I did found was that WRITING QUALITY improved by by OC my 40125W to 48125W with VS02 FW.

I do not think that media quality was an issue since I used NEW RW CD 12x with came with CDRW witch I wrote and erased at CERTIFIED SPEED.

My point would be that you could try OC your CDRW to 48125W and do some testing. If you are dissatisfyed that you can simply flash it back to 40125W whitout any harm done.

Thats all folks.

GOD LUCK.

Staljin

HI,

Today i bought a Verbatim CDRW700 8-10x.
Smartburn Media Check says:
Atip: 97m 34s 23f
Manufacturer: Mitsubishi
Speed Limit: 12X

First burn was ok, 0% errors. Then erased with quickerase as you do, Modred (to have the same test).
Then, second burn with DAO 12x.
Surace scan shows 50% damaged sectors!
Readingdrive is the burner.
What is with all the other owners of Liteon
32x 40x 48x, never made a surfacescan with RW´s?
Please post a few more results,it will help me to see that my drive is working correct (or not).

staljin,

Now I understand what you mean. Possible I will try those 48x firm later.

still

And I always thought CD-RWs were reliable…

made a small test with my LTR 40125S with ZS0j and the rw that came with the drive…

the CD has been erased several times now…

burned 80:36 min.
Surface-scan:

LTR 40125s: 37.19 % good, 62.81 % bad!!
Toshiba SDM1502: 88.84 % good, 11.16 % bad
Plextor PX40TSi: 98.97 % good, 1.03 % bad.

read-times:
LTR 40125s: 3 min
Toshiba SDM1502: 6 min
Plextor PX40TSi: 13 min

axc27

axc27’s reply is very pertinent to the discussion and explains one of the main mysteries of the scandisk function: if you reduce your reading speed, errors decrease.

Writer, firmware revision, disc specs, write speed, reader and read speed should always be specified when puiblishing scandisk results.

Just my $0.02…

I would like to continue this thread…

Am I wrong or has many Liteon drives serious problems writing cd-rw disks?

I did test with 3 cd-rw disks using Nero6316 TDK,Sony and Maxell…

My new 451s burned them all with very bad quality,50-100% damaged and some unreadable parts when scanned with Nero CD Speed

Kprobe shows average C1 errors between 100.000 - 400.000 and average C2 errors between 5.000 - 50.000

With recordnow results were better but still poor

Ok,I removed Liteon and put my 3 years old Artec WPA-28(made in China)in,erased the disks, burned with Nero and they were all perfect,100% good when scanning with Cd Speed.

I thought Liteon 411/451 was supposed to be the king of cd writing quality(according cd-freaks review)

Any comments?
