Lowest resource hog

Does any one know which anti-virus or internet Security program uses the least resources. I’m using Norton Internet Security 2007 right now. I bought a new PC and don’t want to bog it down with these programs.

Thanks

Norton = bloatware. I stopped using norton after 2006 version ended. I use nod32 now. It’s great. Another one that others say is great is kaspersky.

Yes, Kaspersky is good, but get the settings right.

i USED TO USE KASPERSKY until I got a virus and had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything, I used to use norton, until I went to renew it once and the computer went tardo and I called norton after paying $70 for their entire software suite, and some habeeb answered and wanted to charge me an additional $70 to remove the virus remotely( I had no virus until I upgraded norton) Then when I did not want to spend the additional $70, he went to $50 and then to $40 and then I hung up and bought something else. Note I went to the norton website and called them directly so it was not a fake deal.

I used pccillin, microsoft one care, and many others and got viruses with them all. The only antivirus I have ever ever had and not gotten a virus with is AVG. It works great but it is a real resource hog and almost totally freezes my computer when it scans. And no I do not have some old slow computer.
My system:
Amd 9950 BE quad core 2.6ghz
coolmax 950w psu
wd 250 sata hd (just ordered a wd 500gb with 32mb cache@7200 rpm)
Sapphire radeon hd 4830 graphics card
windows xp pro 32 bit( also just ordered vista 64bit)
4gb of patriot 1066 ram(just ordered another 4gb, will run 8gb @ 800mhz)
1 floppy
2 dvd drives
a tv card
wireless internet card

My system is super fast and runs many applications at one time, BUT WHEN AVG START, THE COMPUTER ALL BUT FREEZES. I have no idea why, and I am starting to think about getting another anti-virus, but like I said avg is the only one i have not gotten a virus with

I use AVG and set the time for it to scan to 4:30AM and if I’m still at it at that rediculous hour it only slows thing a little…

And it’s bedtime anyway.

The latest version of Nortin is the one that uses the least resources (the latest version has had a substantial rewrite). Check out this resource usage test of AV software & Security Suites by passmark http://www.passmark.com/ftp/antivirus_09-performance-testing-ed4.pdf
