Low virtual memory

using dvdfab free and dvd shrink i got the message that my virtual memory was too low to copy the dvd. i increased it to no avail
same message came up
never happened before have been copying dvds for a while now
please help
thanks

You need more RAM (Physical). How much do you have now? Also virtal RAM is only converting your HDD to ack as RAM but is real slow. Spending 50 dollars or less will greatly improve your system. Also when you install new RAM set Virtal RAM to automatically adjust it with windows itself.

Check available space on hard drive. Also the level of fragmentation…

This has been happening a lot lately with HDDvdFab, I think there is something else going on. Try copying the main title only and see if you get the same error.

75 gb left onharddrive
am only copying the main movie

When I got the “memory” problem it was when I tried to process the Video TS folder using DvdShrink. I ripped the whole movie then tried to extract the main title with DvDShrink bbut it did not work. I then tried doing the “movie only” with HDDvdFab and changed to a backup hard drive, I was then able to process it with DvdShrink. I don’t know if this helps you, it is what I did.

used hddfab to copy movie to my documents-then to dvdshrink-to
reauthor and then backed movie to c drive
still got memory error
have always done it that way and always worked perfectly until now

What is the exact error? Does it say anything about virtual memory? Or is it “out of memory error” (which usually indicates the rip is not quite right)?

Set your paging file to equal initial and max sizes, rather than letting Windows manage it. Might not help your issue, but it’s a far better way to run the paging file. Setting it to 1 GB should be adequate. Run a full defrag before doing this.

I would go to “Control Panel”/“System” and make sure you Ram Modules show up full. I had a problem with burning once and two of my three Ram Modules had lost memory, (Kingston Ram, was replaced, lifetime Guarantee). You Ram should match what you physically have in there (Control Panel/System) under “Physical Ram extension”.

how do i set a paging file

To change the size of the virtual memory paging file
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.

Notes

To open System, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
To have Windows choose the best paging file size, click System managed size.
For best performance, do not set the initial size to less than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you might increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory.
To delete a paging file, set both initial size and maximum size to zero, or click No paging file. Microsoft strongly recommends that you do not disable or delete the paging file.

That’s what the “Help and Support” is for when you press the “START” button.
