Lost my laptop password..plz help!

Guyz i'm in serious trouble...my laptop was working very slowly & had viruses so i downloaded AVIRA free anti-virus and i installed it...it took almost 2 hours for scanning & repairing...then it said that the laptop will auto-restart , then during restarting the username & password screen popped up...it has my username in it but no password (the password & username thing appears , i think i need to put the pw only then the laptop will start )...i tried my best to remember the password but not getting it....i'm just 18 yrs old & never been in this kind of trouble...my big brother's gonna be back in 2 days (even he doesnt remember the password )......he'll bash me up if i dont get the laptop started in 2 days....i know you guyz can help...please please please help me!! My LG laptop is WINDOWS XP!!!

You have problems with your Windows password?
Since your computer seems to be a can of worms anyway, the best method would be to boot from a Linux Live CD, backup your personal files, flatten the HDD and install Windows from scratch.

Thanks micheal…i cant get past the login screen so how do you boot the linux cd…where can i get it from…sorry for replying late actualy it was night in my country when i posted the question, so just got up & replied

First what kinda laptop is it? Also if you didn’t have password before and now you do could mean another hardware problem with your laptop. Or else if you did put in a laptop bios password and can’t get past the bios lock your going to have to take it to a dealer and have them reset the password but then your going to have to pay them to do that. Reason being there is no way to say for certain whom owns that laptop currently beyond what we are told.

Thanks coolcolors…i’ve been using the laptop for 3 years now…i never used to log-off,i just used to shutdown the laptop…i dont know how the hell did this password thing came up…i’m at a cyber cafe right now downloading the ‘offline NT password & registry’…then i will burn iso to the cd…then insert the cd in my laptop…but how will it work…will it autoboot from the login screen.

But if it turns out to be a motherboard problem causing that the laptop is basically not worth fixing unless the motherboard replacement is cheap enough to justify replacing it.

THANKS GUYZ FOR ALL YOUR HELP…i gave my laptop to a pro yesterday…he removed viruses &XP and installed the windows 7 ultimate version for a nominal fee…my laptop’s working great now…anywayz which free antivirus cum antispyware would ya’ll recommend…THANKS AGAIN GUYZ.

Unnecessary. The malware might have been preinstalled with the pirated copy of Windows.
Apart from that, Microsoft Security Essentials should be good enough.

I use comodo firewall (just install the firewall none of the other options), and Avast antivirus both are free.

There are lots of good spy/ad scanners, Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft’s Adaware, and Malwarebytes.

Guyz thanks for the help…guyz is avg free better than avira free…i uninstalled avira then downloaded from filehippo.com & installed AVG…since then the laptop has slowed down…i scanned the whole system with AVG but there was nothing except one thing the result showed a broken digital signature issued by microsoft…should i reinstall AVIRA again?

I would get MSE it is free and has a lot of praise from several testers and I use this myself and never had any issues. I started using this when it was only a beta. Microsoft Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

If you are deciding between AVG and Avira, I would suggest Avira.
It apparently has fewer false positives and seems to be lighter on resources.
I used to use AVG…2 or 3 years, and it does slow the machine down, whereas I don´t really even notice Avira when it´s running.

However, AVG updates itself nicely, whereas Avira sometimes fails to do so, and one has to do it manually.

If you want to do extra scans to be safe, I recommend Malwarebytes although this also requires manual updates.

Thank you dr.who & deanimator for all your help…deanimator i have one issue…while installing avira it said that i should turn off the real time protection of windows defender because of compatability problems…i turned WD off…will avira provide me that real time protection…i’ve downloaded malwarebytes & installed it…big thank to all of y’all.

Guyz thanks for all the help…my dad just brought Kaspersky internet security 2010…hopefully will have no problem for 1 yr.
