but I’m only able to record at 2.4x with Nero 6.3.1.25
What can I do to use it at full rated speed?

#2

Have you flashed the BENQ 1620 to B79P? This will increase speed from 2.4x to 4x.

#3

Sorry, I forgot to mention I have the 822A and it is flashed with the most recent firmware B7KC.

#4

The Longten 001 IS supported media for BenQ, but it is market “low priority” for support. That media is in the category of “SupaCheap -R” media.
There is rumor of unofficial cross-flash method for DL firmware that will work on the 822 drive. I do not have the details on the method to upgrade this drive, but the Longten 001 is supported at 4x with the newer firmwares.
Personally, I would ignore the firmware trick and just purchase no more Longten after it is used up. Let’s hunt up the compatible media list for your current firmware.
Does anybody have this list?

#5

Well, if anybody knows how to trick with the drive for full 4x speed, I would be interested. I’ve got a bunch of these supacheap and want to get rid as fast as possible.

#6

You can find the dw822a supported media list on BenQ’s FTP server
ftp://62.101.64.70/dvd-rw/firmware/dw822a/

I checked the list and Longten01 DVD-R 4x is not supported, danielwritesback is correct that if you check the media support for the dw800a dual format firmware Longten 01 is supported at 4x
ftp://62.101.64.70/dvd-rw/firmware/dw800a/dual_format/

I suggest a visit to here and you should find what you need to try a cross flash.

#7

Is it safe to flash the DW800a firmware into the DW822a?
Can I flash it back to 822 proprietary firmware?

#8

I’d research that first because I couldn’t with certainty say, no doubt someone in this forum has already tried it so a search should turn up something.

#9

I have found that the Longten 001 media does not work well in any of my settop players. It is OK for computer data storage, as it will read back without errors in all of my computer DVD drives, so I just use 'em for that purpose, never for movies.

#10

Given the information, one would have to say: If your Longton 001 media is currently working in your set top player, then do not re-flash your drive.

#11

No, I’m distributing weather charts on DVDs. So it is actually data, not movies.

#12

try flashing to b3jc firmware and see if you get 4x. b3kc has only been show max speed of 2.4x with the 8x dvd-r media I have been using. b3jc shows speed fine

#13

Already had b3jcy-2 and it was 2.4x as well.
