Lockup/Failure writing Optical Media

Hello,

I have recently encountered a problem with burning data to optical media. Originally I was using Nero 7.0.0.0 ultra and the computer would lock up after a minute or two on either CD or DVDs, images or individual files. I upgraded to Nero 7.8.5.0 and am now able to burn CDs however I still cannot burn DVDs. I tried using the windows built in media burning function to write a CD which also failed.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled each nero for testing then removed the older version, as well I have removed and reinstalled the device drivers for my optical drives. I have 2 internal super-multies, an LG and a Lite-On.

Please help! I have run out of ideas.

Make sure drive and cable are properly setup and connected.

Ill look into the DMA idea. As for the drive and cable; I will investigate that as well, however Im positive that the jumpers are set to master /w a slave -another super-multi drive- and the IDE cable is securely in place. I will check anyway though.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions I can look into?

So I tried the DMA thing, I am already using Ultra DMA 2 (even stated in the Bios). Im using the Nvidia nforce4 parallel ATA controller to handle my IDE cables, part of the mainboard. I tried running the drives in Ultra DMA 4 but then I could not even open the folders on a CD, it was reading too slowly.

So what should I do? turn off DMA, lower it, or perhaps it could be a driver issue with the Nvidia nForce4 ATA controller?

What about switching my IDE cable plugins? Put my two hdds on secondary and me opticals on primary instead of secondary?

Suggestions?

Anyone?

Update the nvidia ide drivers if you can.

Ill try that now, I attempted to burn with the DMA settings as is but now the optical drives are my primary IDE, still the same problem. Ill see if that works.

That worked. I just burned a DVD without any problems. I used the 6.86_nforce_win2kxp_international_whql drivers which seems to have resolved the issue.

Thanks.

I have same issue from the start, bought LITEON 20A1H, failed with above error. Upgraded firmware. I got it from http://www.liteonit.com , the file is called DR20LL0A.zip . If you have another drive or model, you will need another firmware. But this did the trick for me.

i have the exact problem as this guy i have the same chipset as him will try and upgrade the drive for the motherboard
ohh i am running vista and the only media i can’t to is dvd-r
i can read dvd-r but can;t burn t thm i can read and write to ever other media i have the same dvd drive with lastst firmware
i have tired the drive in another pc and i get the smae problem
