Lock ups on copy but plays fine?

I have a movie I bought off ebay. It was a dvd+r copy.
Ive watched it numerous times and never had a problem. In my dvd drive plus my dvds players.
When I try to back it up I get problems. Same Vob.
I first tried to just copy it through windows. directly from dvd to folder This causes a “Cannot copy VTS_01_3: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)”.
Then I tried smartripper but it locks up.
I tried dvd decrypter and get this:

I 02:08:33 Initialising SPTI…

Then it just keeps continuing on like that.
Its been too long to return it or get a replacement.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking of converting the vob to avi then back but I dont know if you can convert a vob straight from the dvd instead of transfering it to your comp?

Thanks for any help.

I have a movie I bought off ebay. It was a dvd+r copy.

the best thing you can do is report the seller to ebay for selling pirated films.

my freinds son brought kill bill 1 & 2 from ebay and they were copys he got his money back from the seller but he should have reported them as well.

retail dvd`s are coming down in price all the time buy new or second hand and make your own backups keeping your originals safe.

Well this was a movie that was never release on dvd. Probally a vhs convert.
