Since i haven`t read anything about the new Toshiba DVD-Rom here are some specs...

TestPC:
Athlon 1333
Epox KTA 3 with 512 MB
Dawicontrol Ultra DMA 100 Controller Raid 1 with 2 WD 400 BB HDDs.
Toshiba 1612 DVD Rom on first IDE Port Master
Plextor 24-10-40 on secondary IDE Port Master

First i must say this Drive works like a charme

Toshiba has made a real good Drive it`s still 100% Clone CD Compatible.
Data Transfer and seek Time are equal to the Toshiba 1502 DVD-Rom(which i had first).

The new Toshiba now features High Speed Audio grabbing here are the results with Nero CD Speed:

Start: 13.70X
Average: 20.48X
End: 26.03x sometime over 30x on self burned ones

Dae Quality: 10 Accurate Stream: yes

The bad thing is the Drive ripps DVDs only on 2X like the Toshiba 1502.

So if your looking for a DVD-Rom that is 100% CloneCD compatible and has high Speed Audio grabbing this is the one to choose.

Hope this little review could help a little bit...

For more Specs post here,i`ll try to test it...

How well or poorly does it perform with SafeDisc (1 or 2) protected games? I heard some people with slow reading times with these kind of games… Fast Error Skip isn’t really fast with the SD-M1502.

Yes indeed  These times are impressive compared to my SD-M1502. LaserLock protected games take about 10 minutes to read. SafeDisc takes even longer…

Sweet, I haven’t bought a new reader yet… wonder how long it will take before I can find one locally… lots of 1502’s around…
Time to start nagging the dealers

Wow, first post in almost a year in this thread. Anyway, I’m thinking about buying this DVD-ROM to replace my old Acer 50x. Does anyone know the Toshiba’s performance under secure mode in EAC?

The 1502 can read SafeDisc 1/2 also very fast. You have to set FES to no error correction, 0 retries and read speed to 32x (48x is unreliable without error correction) and it will work at a pretty good speed (note that you must not read AWS discs with this setting)

It rips CSS discs at 2x, non CSS discs at
2x: DVD-R
6-16x: Single Layer (incl. DVD-RW!)
4-10x: Dual Layer

How about protected audio cd:s? For example key2audio?

#16

1502 Can’t recognise disc, the 1612 is said to be capable of reading some Key2Audio discs.
If I had to copy with them, I’d fill my 6th and last available 5 1/4 - slot with a Plextor…
