I have the same CD rom, but a different problem. I have had zero problems with my CD rom in 4 years.
Last night I installed the newest version of Divx ( the codec pack and the player ). When I went to open a file on a CD, the drive is missing from my computer. Now Im not entirally sure if the divx installation is what caused it, or if it was purely luck.
So to get started, I checked the cd rom in device manager, and sure enough it said it was not installed properly. So I did an autosearch for drivers, windows found a driver for it, and it asked me to restart. no effect.
So then I went online and tried to find the driver for the CD rom manually, and did as I said before, and no luck.
So then I uninstalled everything to do with DIVX to make sure it isnt causing a problem, and restarted, same problem.
I then uninstalled the CD rom, restarted, and let windows autodetect the device, then updated its drivers again, and on restart, still not working.
Thinking it might be my CD rom, I removed the CD rom, and installed this liteon ltc 48161h combo dvd/burner.
I then let windows auto find the driver for the drive, restarted, and still nothing.
I then went to LITEON's webpage, and manually found the driver. When I went to use the driver it says...
No matched drives detected ! This utility is only for LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161 drive. Detected drives:
But when I go into device manager and look at the cd rom, this is word for word the model it is registering as...
So thinking something could be wrong with the cable ( since my cooling fan slightly frayed it ) I replaced the cable, and rebooted, and did everything stated above.... no changes.
I really have no idea what to do at this point. The PC see's the CD rom, but refuses to accept any drivers for it, or function. I mean even if I couldnt get the drivers to work for it, the default windows basic cd driver should atleast make it read cd correct?
Any advice on this subject would be greatly appriciated as Im out of idea's. Thank you all in advance for your advice.
