LiteOn LDW-401s only has two burn speeds for CD-R?

I’ve just bought the LiteOn LDW-401s burner.

I liked it because it was able to burn CD-R/RW as well as DVD-R.

The problem is that when I want to burn CD-R there is only two different burn-speeds to choose from (4x and 40x).

I’ve tried a couple different programs but they all list these two speeds.

Is this a limitation with this burner?

The problem is that sometimes I’d like to burn ‘safer’ (usually at 8x or 16x).

Do you have a blank CD-R disc in the drive? Mine shows 40x and 4x only when it is empty. When I have a CD-R in the drive it shows 40x, 32x, 24x, 16x, and 8x

Same here, 40x, 32x, 24x, 16x, and 8x are the available options.

Surely, you mean that it is able to burn CD-R/RW at a high speed. Any available DVD Burner can also write CD-R/RW.

This is as dhc014 wrote totally normal considering an empty 401s.

There’s no need to burn at lower speeds by default. SmartX and SmartBurn can handle the speeds according to the source and selected media type. There’s no notieceable effect considering quality, too.

You’re all correct…

I had no media in the drive when i was looking for the supported speeds :slight_smile:

It never occured to me that it mattered (my earlier burners didn’t behave like that).

Tankred: Yes, I meant that it was able to burn at higher speeds…
