I read somewhere else that all the Mediatek chipsets will be +/- capable, but the firmware will decide whether the drive is + or -. Other news releases I've seen support the notion that the first drive will be DVD+ only. I wonder if this is why LiteOn released the Sony chassis, to keep the promise of a +/- drive. I can't see them releasing a Sony chassis and a LiteOn chassis both.
I guess time will tell what is what.
I understood it this way:
The LDW-401S currently supports both + and - but only + is implemented in the firmware. It's delayed because they have problems implementing the - format, but it will be released when they have found the solution to support both + and -.
So when it's availible in the stores late summer it will be a dual writer which supports both formats right out of the box.
