In the media support text file with the KSOB firmware RAR package, under “DVD-R Media Codes” it says: TYG02 -52 [ 4x, 6x, 8x ]. Does that mean by updating the firmware the burner can support the Taiyo Yuden discs at those speeds only?
Which firmware would you recommend currently out there? The KC4B unofficial firmware, or the official Liteon KSOB firmware?
I recommend KC4B.
Damn, I already flashed the KS09 to KS0B. Can I flash from the KS0B to the KC4B? Also, how is it better than the official firmware by Liteon?
I assume so, I flashed from the stock FW at the time (KS02) to KC4B.
It’s been quality-patched by Codeguys. Certainly did the business on my 1693S, but it’s your call.
“Assume so”. damn cant take the risk
You’re right, if you’re unsure of any of it, it’s wise to stick with official firmwares.
KS0B will do fine for you, I’m sure.
So with the KS0B firmware, my Taiyo Yuden (TY02) DVD-R 8X would work fine with the drive? At maxium speeds and slower speeds?
The TYG02 should work fine at the speeds you mentioned in your original post. 8x Taiyo Yuden media is very well supported.
What about the 16X DVD-Rs (TYG03)? Are they well supported too?
From that very same media support list that you have:
TYG03 -00 [6x, 8x, 12x, 16x ]
