LiteOn DRW-3S121. What is it? Help!

Today I’ve bought this model of Liteon and I could not find any suitable firmware for this drive at official liteon page. Windows XP recognize it as 1213S, but when I’ve downloaded the latest firmware for 1213S it said that this is not suitable firmware. Here is KProbe info:

And mode2 were not available(it was gray with mode1 selected)
also only 4x speed was available but I want to burn at 1x and 2x speed… How can I do that?
Do I need a new firmware? What’s the difference between 3s121 and 1312S? Why there is no little info in internet about 3S121? How can I burn DVD safely or is this fail connected with the firmware? Do I need to return back this drive, or it is OK?

Visit Codeguys homepage. If you are confident at flashing drives, then download BS41 firmware for 1633S. You have to “cross-flash” your 1213S OEM. Windows recognizes your drive as 1213S because it’s 1213S but Lite-On IT official homepage provides firmware files that are only for Lite-On IT’s own drives. Your 1213S is not a Lite-On IT drives though it was manufactured by Lite-On IT.

BACK UP TSD1 before doing any flashing!

Look under the Comprehensive LiteOn Tools Collection and look for the LtnFW tool. And back up the TSD1 firmware (should be 1 MB in size). Zip it up, and post it in the forum as an attachment, please. Thank you. :slight_smile:

(the last person who had TSD1 didn’t back it up before flashing, so there was no way to go back)

Oh! I have backed it up. but with “firmware.exe” which i’ve download and used just a half an hour ago. Or should I back it up with LtnFW?

Lite-On IT manufactured the drive, but sold to an OEM buyer. That OEM buyer changes the name of your drive and firmware along with some front-side design and box design. Also the retail price is changed from something like US$80 to US$70, for example. There’s a South Korean distributor here selling 4KUS DRW-3S161 for less than Lite-On IT SOHW-1633S but they are manufactured in the same lines. Only different firmware is applied at the end of the assembly lines.

Many thanks for the explanation! I’ve allready patched it with BS41 and it can read the discs.
But now the question is about “Session fixation error”. How could I prevent this? is it normal for Nero to write DVD with track-at-once only? If not, what can I do to enable disc at once 96?

Your log looks like it burnt the whole disc, it just did not close the disc. Your nero was in DAO mode for dvd. Try updating your nero. Also try a nero infotool readout. Your ASPI layer should have 4 entries of version 4.60…not 4.71. You can fix that with this . If you have further problems with nero, you could try to search the software forums.

The problem was not solved! Today I’ve bought DVD+RW disk for experiments. It is:

Ok, I tried the ASPI 4.60. I’ve still got a problem. Now I am going to visit my friend and try to install my drive into his computer because he has no problems with burning DVD. Only then I’ll be concernd about what the hell is going here with my drive: Then we shall see if the problem is in Hardware\Firmware\Drivers\Software. In 8 hours I’ll post a result.

I’ve just returned. The testing showed that this is hardware\firmware problem.
So i’ve decided to return THIS awful DRW-3S121. I’d better buy 1213S or 1633S. But for now the only question is… Is there any way to hide from experts on firm where I bought this drive the evidence that i’d changed the firmware? I’ve not changed the regional settings. The only thing I did is the firmware updates. But I have returned back the initial firmware. Is it enough?

Hm… If it was, then it had had to be marked as xx-1213S. The first thing I did last friday when I’d bought it was the search for firmware. ItRefused to be flashed by the official 1213 firmware…
By the way, i’ve noticed that 832(12)s drive’s led is turning red when writing. Mine 3s121 never turned red: when it is writing it simply blinks with green with a period of 1 second. Is It normal?
I’ve also noticed strange sounds when it works, not the same that were in 812S.

Also, during simulation in NERO 6.6.0.1 it refused to simulate VERBATIM DATALIFE 4x DVD with this strange log:

There is another thing. I have written two DVD-R. The first on on 812S crossflashed to 832S and the second one on mine with original firmware. Mine, crossflashed to BS41 refused to write on that medium (?).

Ok, guys. After All, I’ve returned back liteon and bought NEC3500GA. And no problems. I miss very very much Kprobe cause i am an active user of Liteon 52327S but… Now no PIF scans Instead Good burns. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll regret my betray :slight_smile:

We have not posted TSD1 because the bootcode in the TSD1 dump is incorrect (it is the TS09 bootcode; it seems that TSD1 was not loaded onto the drive by the factory and that when it was loaded the bootcode was not correctly updated). That and the fact that there’s no reason to use TSD1 when you have firmwares like BS41 available.
