Liteon 812S or NEC 2500A?

I have read many threads on this site and still can’t decide which one to buy. I’m going to burn movies (backups from orig. DVDs) and game backups and something like that. This burner should be compatible with most medias. So which one is better?

PLEXTOR of course…just kidding:p
I have the same doubt as you do, but
i decided that when i have the money i´ll
buy the cheapest n right now, the NEC writer is the one.
Another thing, if you plan to burn or rip cds
with it, go for the Liteon.

Hope i could help.

oh, i forgot, the new firmwares from Liteon
have support for Booktype setting (bitsetting), n that may come in handy.

I tend to agree, if you really need the rip speed and better reading capabilities of the LiteOn, get the 851S. Otherwise, you’ll be better off with the NEC (which I am VERY satisfied with  ).

He was asking about the 812S, not the 2500A

Here’s my vote for the 812S.

get a firmware upgrade into dual layer burning?

Thanks!

My decision for a DVD burner is based on write quality only (I don’t wear out an expensive DVD writer with read tasks or DAE) - it is my paramount object since I own 4 other drives that are capable of handling any task besides DVD burning.

The NEC 2500A really shines when it comes to write quality with any kind of media but isn’t that good when it comes to cd burning/reading or dvd reading.

If you find matching media and do not have enough space in your pc case for additional drives, the LiteOn will most likely be the better allrounder.
