Liteon 812s not reading burned discs

Well not exactly, but it is very flawed when trying to read its own discs that it burned.

Here’s the situation. I use 1x-8x Matrix DVD-R as the DVD blank media and Sonic My DVD as the burning software. I insert a blank disc and filled it with avi videos. After it’s burned, I eject and closed the dvd writer. One of Two things happen: a) it doesn’t read the burned disc at all b) it loads the disc very slowy, like it would take 3 minutes to load. Then when I try to load a avi file, it loads that file really slowy too (like 2 minutes). Then when I eject the dvd writer again, my computer auto turns off and restarts!

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Welcome to CDFreaks Forum.

Matrix dvd-r are not the best media as far as I know. Better media will probably cure your 812S.

Use DVDIdentifier to retrive mediacode and post.

What firmware are you using.

Here’s the mediacode of the 8x Matrix DVD-R

I also burned with a 8x DVD+R Taiyo Yuden Disc and it does not solve the problem. Here is the mediacode of the disc:

The firmware I use is US0Q. I’m so frustrated because I tried to figure out what the problem is for the longest time, and I still can’t figure it out.

good media, have you tried a 832s firmware?

Am I supposed to do that, and is it safe?

Matrix dvd-r are fake Taiyu Yuden. Very bad media.

What’s the brand of your dvd+r Taiyu Yuden. Could be fake to. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=112854

The problem will not disappear with crossflash to a 832s. You will loose warranty, so RMA is not possible. Stay with the 812s and when problem is solved, you can decide if you want to crossflash to 832s.

Newest firmware for the 812s is US0S. You can upgrade ,but I doubt it will solve your problem. http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd%20rw.asp

don’t know if the media is fake, do you have any other discs at home?
and yes, crossflashing is safe and you can always return to a 812s firmware.
but first you should test other media.

Can the drive read other dvd’s, or is it just having trouble with own burned dvd.

What’s the brand of your dvd+r Taiyu Yuden. Could be fake to.

I doubt that it’s fake because the disc says it is “Made in Japan.”

I upgraded the firmware to US0S, and it still has trouble reading burned discs.

Can the drive read other dvd’s, or is it just having trouble with own burned dvd.

It has no problem reading CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, and it can burn CD-R’s. It is just having trouble reading it’s own burned DVD-R’s or DVD+R’s.

Try other media.

Can the disc burned in the 812s be read in other drives.

I burned using a 8x Dynex DVD+R, and the problem is still there. I really doubt the problem is the media because no matter what media I use, the exact same problem is there.

Concerning different drives, my DVD-ROM drive cannot read dvd discs that are burned from the 812s. But, when I switch to a different computer, the DVD-ROM drive of that different computer can read an 812s dvd disc, and the different computer has a Liteon LDW 851s, and it can read the 812s burned dvd disc (from any media like Matrix, Taiyo Yuden, and Dynex).

Can your dvd-rom drive read other disc cd-r cd-rom dvd-rom.

If your 812s and your dvd-rom drive can’t read disc at all, it could be some software locking your drive’s.

Can your dvd-rom drive read other disc cd-r cd-rom dvd-rom.

My DVD-ROM drive, can read other discs cd-r cd-rom dvd-rom, but it can’t read the 812s burned dvd-r’s.

Can your try your 812s in another PC.

If the errors continue it’s time to buy a new burner.

Same exact problem you are encountering is also bugging me a lot too i put some DVD into it whether its data dvd or a movie or a game sometimes it reads it flawlessly sometimes it doesnt which is very strange either the lense has fucked up and after burning a dvd especially data ones which i normally do it doesnt read them and same is the issue with my liteon cd burner now its turned useless totally it doesnt read anything…
