Picked up a retail, black-bezel, 812s, $89.95 at local tech store.

  • copied EEPROM out and saved.
  • did one +RW W11 full-erase/write on installed US0A FW to check for proper operation.
  • reloaded EEPROM and loaded Code’s FW, R01/R02 swap, US0J base.
  • did two +RW W11 full-erase/write cycles.
  • begin tests…

Comments:
Disk 1

  • WTF? this can’t be true! - way too low!
  • blasted KP v2.1.0 servo errors again
  • giving up on KP 2.1.0

Disk 2

  • Still kicking arse! - still rubbing eyes
  • Sanity Check with 411@811 as scanner: indicates burn was excellent

Disk 3

  • Still going great!
  • appears to be little “learning effect,” as with previous LiteOn FW
(as if it would improve anything)

Disk 5

  • test burn after cheap LEADDATA01 x4 -R
  • no effect on R01 performance

Conclusion:

  • outstanding +R R01 performance!
  • good +RW W11 performance as well!
  • this is too good to be true!
  • burning high error, cheap media affecting drive a myth?
  • Thanks Code65536 !!

***** LEADDATA01 x4 -R Test Burn *****
LEADDATA01 x4 -R - Frys GQ brand - $14.75/25pak

  • only 3.1gb DVD - TV program for giveaways - (so no gripin’ on size!)
  • Appeared to burn at 4~6x range

Test to determine effect of cheap, low quality, high-error media burn
on possible “learned behavior.”

Disk 4 - (3.1gig) - KP v1.1.29

looks like you picked up quite a nice 812 bichi!
A perrfect companion for your NEC 2500A. :stuck_out_tongue:
Ship the 411 to the wifey! LOL

#3

Now, now, be nice to the 812S… :stuck_out_tongue:

#4

shhh!

  • now I’m in trouble… what if Wifey sees this? - hehhee!
  • Which to keep…? 2500/2510 FW DL or 411@811… hmmmm.
  • To be fair, the 2500 should go to Wifey, modded with DL FW…

Next test to try:

  • burn primo, el-cheapo, Frys GQ brand (LEADDATA01) x4 -R on 812.
  • see if it screws up, errr, “learned tables.”

ps:

  • Thanks Code65536, for the R01/R02 swap stuff!
  • Wes-O, when you gonna buy one, hmmmm?

#5

You mean the wifey gets DL before bichi?!?!?!?? :stuck_out_tongue:
