I have a new Liteon 527T CD-ROM 52X set up as a slave to a Plextor PX-708A DVD drive in a Windows XP SP2 environment using an Asus PG51 motherboard. For the past couple of months, I have been unable to read any data from the CD-ROM drive. It shows up in Windows but while the disk whirs in the tray, I get nothing but the hourglass figure. The machine freezes up and I eventually have to remove the CD or reboot.
I do have Norton Systemworks 2005, and Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.1 installed. The DVD works fine; I have removed the CD and DVD in Device Manager and rebooted but nothing. I did delete in the Registry the references to Upper and Lower filters. There is an Upper and Lower Filters .bak reference in the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 key as you can see below:

I've just about tried everything and somone has suggested to me making the LiteOn the master and the DVD the slave. Any thoughts on possible success with that strategy?
It's really stumping (and annoying) me. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
