I’ve just installed a new CD burner, a Liteon 52327s on a 4+ year-old old PC (yeah, I know, but I got a few more months until I can replace it…). I have run the Nero CD Speed transfer Rate test on several CDs in the drive. They are supposed to read up to 52x, but they all start at and stay at a maximum speed of 24x, type CLV (not CAV, as I would have expected).
The only explanation I can come up with is that the IDE conection is too slow to accomodate more than 24x read speeds - I bought this board even before UltraATA-66 came around… I don’t know the technical specs of the old IDE interfaces. Is this a reasonable explanation for why I’m getting such low read speeds? If not, do you have any other suggestions?
Here’s the rest of my PC specs (keep in mind that this was supposed to be a TEST machine, but became my main one when my good PC died )
- Win2K Server, SP4
- P2 400 Mhz
- 128 MB RAM
Thanks a lot!
