LITE-ON SOHW DVDRW 1633S problem

Hello, I’m new to the forum and have a question.

I have had my LITE-ON for a few months now and it was working fine burning DVD’s and all. All of a sudden it’s not detecting it as a burner anymore. My computer is deceting it as a DVD-ROM instead of RW.

In Device Manager it’s name has RW right in it and also in Hardware Properties the RW is right in the name. But in Hardware Properties (Right-Click Drive > Properties > Hardware) it is displaying as a ROM and when I try to copy a DVD now it doesn’t let me choose to burn to a DVD, only save it to my computer. I have 3 different DVD copy programs and they all have same problem, not detecting my DVD-RW as an RW just a ROM.

I have uninstalled the driver and let Windows reinstall it automatically and I also went to the LITE-ON site and downloaded the update but it said I had the most up to date update (I proceeded with the update anyway to make sure).

If anyone has had this problem or know how to solve it I would really appreciate it.

Firmware Version: BSOS

Secondary IDE Channel
Master: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW 1633S
File: System32\DRIVERS\IdeChnDr.sys
Description: Intel Application Accelerator Drive
Version: 2.1.0.2112, 03/01/2003
Provider: Intel Corporation

Thanks,
Scorp

Usually, the IAA won’t cause problems, but since your problem seems weird enough, why don’t you uninstall it. Installing and uninstalling the drivers for the drive itself won’t accomplish anything (since it’s just a generic ATAPI driver anyway) and firmware updates will not help you in this situation (despite what some people might say on other forums) because this purely a problem on the side of software/OS/drivers and the firmware/hardware is completely irrelevant (not to mention, BS0S is just fine).

So uninstall the IAA (Intel Application Accelerator) and your system will revert back to the default Microsoft drivers (which are better, BTW). Aside from that, I can’t think of much else. Well, you might want to consider having Windows reinstall the IDE channel, but don’t do that if your HDD is on the same channel as the drive.

Edit: Found out how to uninstall Intel Application Accelrator
I have my 1633S on IDE2 Primary and my DVD-ROM on IDE2 Secondary, this will effect my DVD-ROM also, no?

I posted the same message on another forum and like you said other people would say, they said I need to changte my Firmware. The person who said I should change it is a member on the forums and he is offering to send me Bs41 via e-mail which sounds a little iffey to me, eh?

Edit: Also I see on your site (says your site in your profile) you have a Firmware section

LiteOn SOHW-1633S (Looking for 1213S@1633S or 1613S@1633S?)
• BS01/BS02/BS03/BS06/BS0A - stock - unscrambled (old)
• BS0C/BS0G/BS0H/BS0K/BS0R - stock - unscrambled (old)
• BS0S - stock - unscrambled
• BS0S - patched - crossflashing (for 1213S, 1613S, etc.)

Would that do me anygood if I get one of them?

Uninstalling my IAA right now, hope my HDD don’t crash :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotta restart my comp and let’s see what happens

Well, that did NOTHING :(. Any other ideas?

#5

you can even get a 1653s firmware: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/1653S.CS0P.patched-cf-ledfix.rar

#6

Okay, so your HDD is not on the same channel. You might want to try getting the channel reinstalled… see the first post in this thread here: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6645

If that doesn’t help, then run Nero InfoTool (it’s freeware; can be downloaded @ cdspeed2000.com) and report back what it says about your drive and system.

#7

Guess that did help because now is all well again :). Nero and my other burning programs are detcting it to be a RW now, not only a ROM. Thanks for the help guys it must have been that damn IAA :P.

Hi, and welcome. Please do not cross-post. One post is sufficient.

I assume that, by posting in this thread, you have already read it and already tried the solution that worked for the problem that the original poster had?

If you have already tried everything suggested in this thread and you’re still having this problem, then please post more information about your setup. See post #6 about posting an InfoTool report.

#10

I didnt try uninstalling the IAA… i dont kno how to do that … i also dont kno where post #6 is … this is my first time on here

In the upper-right corner of each post is the post number. Or you could just start from the very first post in the thread and count to 6…
