[qanda]This thread is about the Lite-On LVW-5005B DVD Recorder. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Okay guys, I’m new here and apologize if this question has been asked/answered before. I have done a search and can’t seem to find anything pertaining to this exact problem but just in case I’ve missed it perhaps someone could point me in the right direction.
Here’s the problem, the DVD drawer on my Lite-on LVW-5005 keeps opening and even when I do manage to get it to stay closed, the word “CLOSE†remains on the display (i.e. it does nothing else, such as read the disc). Sometimes it will display “CLOSE†when it should say “OPEN†and vice versa, as if they’re out of wack. The thing is I’m pretty sure this is due to a mechanical fault because when I removed the drive and cleaned off all the dust and reassembled the unit I found it worked perfectly without the drawer faceplate. However, as soon as I clicked the faceplate back into place, the problem would return. Obviously I don’t want to use the machine without the drawer faceplate being in place but it seems I have no option. The only way I can describe the fault in a little more detail is that it’s as though the extra weight of the face-plate isn’t allowing the drawer to fully retract because I can still hear the a whirring sound from the drawer motor. I think I should also add that I’ve been experiencing intermittent problems with the drawer for a while now, where it refuses to open despite my repeatedly hitting the eject button (whether I use the remote or the unit itself). The thing is I don’t really want to replace the whole drive especially seeing as everything else is working okay, but was wondering could the problem be due to something as simple as the drive belt being slack, and if so, would one taken from say, an old CD player (from a hi-fi system) suffice? (Assuming of course they’re all pretty much a standard size). Alternatively does anyone know if spare parts are available for this drive, anywhere in the UK? I’d appreciate any help with this.
Incidentally, I've had this machine for four years and have never had a problem with it until now.
