Thanks for all the quick responses and ideas,
Deanwitty - I only bought the drive on 4th April 2012 and it was delivered on 5th so as you suggest (and my mate’s view) it could be a faulty drive, I’m taking it round to his house tomorrow and trying it in his PC just to confirm it isn’t my system messed up.
Vroom - I’m afraid I don’t have any BD-RE or BD-R media, just factory pressed original movies but will try one at my mates when I test tomorrow.
Kerry56 - I have Media Player Classic Home Cinema on my system, as its a great little media player but didn’t realise it could play Blu-Rays (if that’s the case I’ll be getting get rid of my trail version of PowerDVD as I don’t like it). I’ve tried it with a few films, with AnyDVD HD in the background but again the disc isn’t recognised by MPC or AnyDVD HD so it can’t break the protection. I’ve also tried with 3 different SATA cables and on different ports on the MB but with the same results (DVD and CD read but not BD).
From all things you guys have said it looks like I’ve been unlucky with the brand new drive and received a faulty one.
Is it right that there are two heads in the drive, one for the Blu-ray and the second for DVD and CD’s?
Thanks for all your help so far, I will post when its been tried in my mates system.
