I'm new to this forum so please go easy!
I very recently purchased a Lite-On iHAS524 DVD burner (firmware BLJ2) and some JVC branded DVD+R (YUDEN T03) to archive my many RAW photo image files. After burning a few discs at a rather cautious x8 speed I checked the burn quality using Opti Drive Control.
In all cases I've used the Lite-On drive to perform the quality scans.
I performed the scan at x16 speed and was surprised to see that each disc showed the same trend of increasing PIE errors toward the end of the disc. Scanning at x8 speed however, showed consistently low PIE errors throughout the disc. This is shown in the first 2 attached images below.
I then test burned a few of these discs (again at x8 speed) using an older Samsung SH-S203N drive and performed the same quality tests at x16 and x8 speed. In this instance both traces were consistent, and is a trend that again appears repeatable. This is shown in the last 2 attached images shown below.
Has anyone else seen this kind of behaviour? Is this a problem? Does this indicate that the Samsung burn is of a better quality?
As I'm trying to burn backup discs for archival I'd appreciate peoples views. Thank you.
