Hi there! I’ve bought a PC Compaq Presario in UK more than year ago with LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S driver with BPSA firmware. The drive doesn’t read or write CDs but works good with DVDs. I tried everything, nothing worked. I’ve been advised to install new firmware, but couldn’t find any suitable one for BPSA. I’ve downloaded a firmware from HP website, but the only way how to install it is to reboot it from CD. Now you see where the problem is? My driver doesn’t work with CDs any more so how could I install a firmware from a CD??? I’m lost, please HELP! Or should I just buy a new drive??? HEEELP!!!
The CD-part of your drive is probably dead and no firmware update will fix that. It’s still worth a try though, before replacing the drive. You can find suitable firmware on codeguys.rpc1.org (BSOY, BYX5 or CSOT, just choose one - and they run in Windows, no need to boot from a floppy or CD). This is assuming your PC isn’t under warranty any more, as you won’t be using Compaq firmware.
