Lite-On DVDRW SHW-160P6S Disk Recognition

I have been using my Lite-On DVDRW SHW-160P6S With frimware PS04 (I think) with no problems for the last 3 months. I have been using blank media (reasonably cheapies from a local shop) with no problems until yesterday - now when I put the blank DVD media in the file both windows XP (“What do you want to do with this disk”) and Nero recognise blank DVDs as blank CDs. What could have changed to make it do this? Any ideas?

Sorry if this has been asked before - I did a quick search of the forums and couldn’t find and reference to this problem.

Does it prevent you from burning it correctly?

Windows is stupid & when you insert any blank media says it’s a cd.

Are you sure nero is detecting it as a CDrom, and you aren’t just selecting the CDROM section from the initial screen?

Yep, you are right

Windows had, until very recently, been stating that a blank DVD had been inserted but now it is saying that a blank CD has been inserted. Nero was defaulting to CD mode - for some reason but when I select it manually it seems to write ok.
Thanks for the help - sorted!
