Lite-on DVDRW showing up as CD

I have a lite-on DVDRW and it keeps showing up as a CD Drive can anyone help!?!?!?!?!

ignore it happens to everyone, theres nothing wrong with the drive , just a windows quirk

but the programs im useing isnt allowing me to burn anything I can burn CDs but not DVDs they fail everytime.

believe me its not related in any way to that windows quirk , what program are using for burnning? if its nero provide a complete log (burn again and click the save/save log button, and dont forget to remove the serial number from the log) , what discs are you using? brand/speed/type - or +,country it was made in , also check whats the mediacode with dvdidentifier ,use the clipboard button and just paste it

those are crap low quality discs, you must get better quality discs , i suggest youll get taiyo yuden 8x dvd+r from http://www.rima.com if your from the us or http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk if from europe , or get verbatim 16x dvd+r from a local store (just make sure their made in taiwan, the indian ones have very inconsistent quality)

the nero log indicates your burner dislikes the discs , not every burner likes cheap-crap discs

Agree with easterbunny.

Mike, I have the same burner. I recently erased my Drive and I just noticed the same problem with mine. I don’t have the time to read everyone elses’ posts right now, so if this solution has already been offered… .oops. I downloaded the firmware form here: http://www.opendrivers.com/categorycompany/15/1460/cd-rom-liteon-technology-free-driver-download-page1.html It looks kinda like a B.S. page of ads, but scroll down to the middle of the page and you will see our burner listed. Just click on the link (#49 I think), and install the software. Mine now reads, ‘DVD-RW drive’ and I’m not getting errors anymore either. I hope this helps you man.
