LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1 won't burn

vbimport

#1

Haven’t used my LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1 a lot over the years, have searched high and low through forums trying to figure out why it won’t burn any longer. Doesn’t look like the buffer starts working.

Tried all suggestions I found, still not working. I’m using Nero 11 platinum. and posting the log.

Appreciate any help you can offer.

Welcome to the forum Les

I had the IDE version of the same drive awhile ago, it’s pretty tolerant of most media, but as with most drives, with DL it’s best to use the good stuff for a better chance of a good burn.

Which leads me to your issue - RITEK S04’s not the best, and from the KEY_MEDIUM_ERRORs in your log, the drive doesn’t like it either.

Another idea may be to try a different burning software (maybe ImgBurn - it’s free, so nothing to lose!)

If you have a number of those discs left, you can try burning them at a slower speed (6x, maybe even 4x), but really I’d suggest buying Verbatim +R DLs is your safest bet.

Thanks for the reply… I tried burning it a 2.5… still an issue… I am on my way to Tiger Direct I’ll pick up some other DVDs see if they will work.

Mmmm, a lower speed didn’t help, it’s still complaining about the discs, you’re right.

Hopefully grabbing some better discs will sort things out, let us know how you get on when you try them!

#5

I was only able to pick up some Verbatim DVD+R DL 8.5, 2.4 x today. Tried one and it works… Hopefully I can get some 8.5 GB with faster speed to see if they will work too. Thing is those other ones that aren’t working now did work before… Hmmmm

Don’t know if successful log is helpful but here it is.

Thanks for your help… I need to find a place that has a better selection of media… When I manage to get some faster write speeds I’ll try again and let you know.

Les…

#6

Glad the Verbatims work :iagree:…as for the other ones, the thing is with that media code, is they can be variable in quality.

And if the discs that worked were from a completely different spindle/pack, then the media code/manufacturer could have been completely different.

This is why we generally recommend Verbatim, especially for DL discs - at least you know what you’re getting, making them a fairly safe bet

#7

The biggest issue is: Multisession type: : Start multisession

#8

Hey Chef,

Are you saying I should make sure I choose “start multisession”?

Thank you,

Never use MS with DVD!
