Lite on DVD problem

[qanda]This thread is about the Lite-On DH-20A4H. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Help I’m having problems with my current DVD Burner; I bought this around a year ago and I’ve no problems with it before; Now, Everything that I burned within this year can’t be read on my Computer; It simply says that the media is blank yet on my standalone dvd player, it can be read. On the other hand, All of the media which I burned before works perfectly well. I’ve tried Imgburn and Deepburner free version and the same results came out. Other relevant info are,

  1. I’ve flashed the firmware of it months before but no problem during that time.

  2. I’ve reformatted by Windows XP Sp2 two times now and no luck on it.

Here are some pics.

First is my burned DVD a year ago

Second one of the DVD that I burned just this year

This is my first time posting on this forums so please edit my thread if necessary.

What kinda media did you use? And what is your firmware? Is the media booktyped or not? What burn speed did you use? What software did you use to make the burn? Without these infos we can’t diagnosis what is happening to your dvd drive. Also you never mentioned if it could play a commercial dvd properly??

Arita DVD x8. Burn Speed x8 I used Imgburn and Deepburn(read my post again). Firmware is QP5B(The latest one) It plays my dvds burned last year and anything else which wasn’t burned on this drive so yes it plays copyrighted DVD/VCD. I don’t know about booktype so I presume my software set it on default.

Please tell me if there are any other info you need to help.

I tried the two dvds stated above on my friend’s samsung dvd writer. It worked fine on it yet it doesn’t work from where it was burned. I’m thinking of downgrading my firmware back to QP59. The problem is that I didn’t backup my firmware beforehand. Now if you could give me some links on older firmware versions of this drive.

Odd but how about this slow down your burn speed if it says 8x try 4x and no mutitasking and burn with imgburn. Imgburn is a more recommended program but make sure it is the latest version. I am not familiar with deepburn so I can say much to it. Maybe some one else can stay something about DeepBurn. I think if your going to use the older firmware it won’t flash cause it will recognize the new one and won’t let you. You will have to use a firmware flash program from CodeKing posting to reflash to a older firmware. That is the only way that I know of to revert to older firmware. The Arita DVD x8 media is ie - or + R media? Cause if it is +R media you can download the software from liteon site that will turn on the booktype so that any DVD+R will be automatically changed to DVD-ROM when you burn to them. Here some links to look at if they can help.
