Ricoh R01 discs are variable. And I will attest to that! I've had a spindle that'd get me around 1 PI avg. I just got a new spindle. Every disc now gets me > 10 PI avg. Same burner, same firmware, same everything. Media-wise, both are the same brand (both spindles are Fuji Ricohs), same source (made in Taiwan, bought at Best Buy), etc. Only cause of this 10x hike in errors is the fact that it's a different spindle.
Sure, it's still pretty good error-wise (and passed my bed-of-nails test reading smoothly at 16x on my combo), but it illustrates that Ricohs are not all that consistent. If one batch can have more than 10x as many errors as another... who knows? There might be batches that are even worse off than this.
