i recently purchased a 411 from NE. it arrives today, so far the only thing i have is nero 6.3.0. i need some help on the following…

-what other apps will i need to ease this dvd-burning process? (i.e. burn data/movies/etc… check media…)
-what type of media is very compatible w/ this particular drive? how much do they cost usually? any deals at the moment?

thanks in advance,
the dvd+/-rw noob

Patch Nero to the latest, 6.3.0.3. It will do data backups on either DVD or CD. If you plan to backup movies, you’ll need DVD Shrink, freeware that removes copy protection and compresses or reauthors to fit a dual-layer commercial DVD on a single-layer blank.

You’ll find Shrink and some excellent guides for burning at www.dvdrhelp.com

Also check the tools thread in this forum for handy LiteOn utilities.

There are already several media threads here to search, but in general anything that uses RicohJPN R01-02 (4X DVD+R) or Ritek G04 (4X DVD-R) will work reliably. Those are sold under a variety of brand names.

I just got a spindle of these and am quite happy with the results:

i just bought the following Memorex 4x 50/Pack 4.7GB DVD+R, Spindle from staples for $48.48 w/ tax (PM to BB’s $49.99). assuming that these are Ricoh (i’ll find out for sure when i get home later tonight), would there be a disadvantage of havign +R instead of &/or compared to -R media (in readability/acceptance)???

thanks in advance.

Have to agree with wittangamo

Get latest Nero + DVD Shrink = Great Combo

If you have a MicroCenter in your area they have a great deal on
25pk Spindles called “Platinum Series -R” 4x @ $0.89 each 25pk
or $0.69 each when you get 4 25pk (US Dollars)
I’ve had no probs with them, unlike some Memorex I got at Office Depot.

Update your Firmware too.

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

DVD identifier is very easy to use:

-Select the drive you want to use from the dropdown menu at the top (with the DVD media inserted, or insert it before continuing to the next point)
-Click the identify button.
-Click the clipboard button and paste the information into your post.
-Click the ‘Media Code’-Block button
-Copy and paste the upper 4 lines of this code into your post (Those shown with black background).

Try this

that’s ok, you can keep your adware. but thanks anyhoo.

All I CAN say is that they work for ME with MY Setup. I’m about halfway through the 2nd 25pk, with no probs.
100 @ about $75 US including TAX, I’ll be gettting another 100
They work on both my Set Tops (Toshiba and Samsung) and look fine on the 43" Hitachi HDTV.

The Memorex 4x DVD+R’s i got in the 10 pack w/covers were CMC

I are a n00b too, and i did this

FSOF F/W, after researching it a lil. From what i read, the FSOF seems to be the best of them all. FSOH has issues, and the report on the latest FSOJ didnt appear to be promising

All i tried so far is the Mem’s, which so far im 3/3 right out of the gun
