Lite-On 411s "Disc has changed" error

I’m not sure if this a software (Nero 6.0.0.19), hardware (Lite-On 411s) or media (Ritek G04 4x -R) issue.

I know that this drive has trouble with cheap media but these Ritek disks aren’t usually classed as cheap but when I try and burn at 4x on them I get a “Write Failed at 4x, Disc has changed” error from Nero, even before it has started burning. I also get the error when simulating. I also got the same error with a TDK 4x -R Taiyo Uden disk.

As soon I drop it back to 2x everything works fine, can read on my stand alone player, and DVD-Rom.

Has anybody some across this error?

From the log attached I can seen that DMA is turned off on all my drives which I shall rectify when I get home.

Error is a 9:50:52pm near the bottom

1: From the log it seems like the drive thinks it have a Taiyo Yuden DVD-R disc:

Recorder: LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: TYG01 -
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193

Maybe you had a TY disc in the drive and changed it for a Ritek G04 without the drive registering the change?

2: It seems like you have a nvidia chipset on your mainboard. Nvidia chipset/drivers is known to cause problems with optical drives. I suggest that you use the MS IDE drivers included in the operating system or tries the newest official from nvidia (do not use beta or drivers from other vendors, such as your mainboard maker).

3: Enable DMA.

  1. Yeah sorry, the log was for the TDK that had the same error as the Ritek.

  2. Will try the latest drivers

  3. Can’t seem to enable DMA as you can see in the pic there is no advanced under IDE ATA/APAPI controllers in control panel.

I shall keep working on it.

Whoops. Pictures won’t insert.

1: okay

2: okay

3: Most likely due to the nvidia IDE drivers (which sucks).

Installed MS IDE drivers and all is good now. Thanks.
