Linux Download

where can i find free linux isos for download. FTP or HTTP conections wanted, with download remuse possibility (for download manager)

:bow:

i just typed “where to download linux” into google and got a number of relevant results.

the top result was http://www.linuxiso.org which has a number of different linux distributions.

you could replicate my google search to find more options.

http://www.linuxiso.org/ took 2 seconds to find in google

www.distrowatch for info and links :slight_smile:

(or: ask detailled information here :))

Yes distrowatch is a very good Linux site the best one I found so far and I use it all the time have been for years. I don’t like downloading because my net is so very slow and would take weeks to download one of the latest versions and find it easier to order the Linux version I want on DVD and in a week or two it’s in my letter box quicker than downloading.

PS Dee-ehn you link to distrowatch in not working it should be www.distrowatch.com/

Also check big news agents and supermarkets. Some sell linux magazines, in the UK Linux Format for example (it is known as something else in the US), these tend to have distros on the cover discs. Ubuntu will deliver for free though the minimumm you can get are 5 disc packs which have a live and install version in them.

Yes I subscribe to it, its cheaper then buying it at the news agents and the news agents are normally one month behind. a very good magazine and lot of interesting information and every month they have a DVD full of the latest Linux software and one or two new versions of Linux.

why use a download manager, use bittorrent :D. Save the mirrors bandwidth.

maybe becose i have a radio internet conection, thats why. I can’t use any P2P decently with it.

BTW i have an Zapp telemodem Z010 any 1 know how speed up radio modems using EVDO?

BTW2: what linux you recomend me? mandrake, SUSE, redhat?

i’d recommend suse

weird. i remember using napster on radio network back in the day. must be the isp :frowning:

linux that you are learning for the most support(popularity) - ubuntu
linux that you are learning for business - fedora core
linux that you want to be easy - mandriva
linux that you want to be useful - suse

not that the others arent useful, but suse is pretty sweet straight outta the box.

edit - ubuntu has a program where they will mail you their cd’s for free. check it out - https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Useful --> None
Unix that’s decent compared to Windows --> OS X
//Danne

well that wasn’t the question was it

in a good night (happy hour 1am, 7am) i can download 80Mb and upload 120Mb

on a crap i might download 5Mb or less, thats why ftp download is so important
