Linux ATI Drivers

I really want to try Evil Entity, everything about it appeals to me (themed, multimedia centric, etc). Although I will admit I know little about Linux, I still want to run it and learn more about it.

The only problem being I’ll need drivers for my ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, I know ATI offer drivers for this distro, but the reccommended drivers for Evil Entity are from XI Graphics and its all try before you buy (If im not mistaken)

Does anyone know of some stable ATI drivers for Evil Entity specifically (and maybe knoppix) that are freeware? Because Id really prefer not to have to format+re-install every 30 days or pay $69 for drivers.

Thanks a lot.
