Limiting write speed on NC-4550A

Greetings to all the experts,
I’ve just installed a brand new NEC ND-4550A and need to limit the write speed to X8 for certain media. he problem is that the only available speed in my burning software is X10 (I’m using Nero 7).
I had no problem adjusting this parameter in my old LG drive.
Any advise will be appreciated.

Drive: _NEC DVD_RW ND-4550A
Firmware Version: 1.X7

Software: Nero Burning ROM - Version: 7, 0, 1, 2
Nero DriveSpeed - Version 3, 0, 6, 0

You cannot because you surely talk about specific CD-RW media, or not?!?

Thanks fot your reply.

The CDs I use in this case are being identified by Nero CD-DVD Speed as:
Disc type: : CD-RW
Manufacturer: : Moser Baer
MID : 97m17s01f
Write speeds: : 10 X
Capacity: : 79:59.74 703 MB

I’m just a bit surprised since my older LG burner allowed me to choose writing the same media in a either X8 or X10.

I have the impression that the CD-R/CD-RW Media in the 4550 Firmware is not very well supported.
e.g. I have some CD-R Media rated at 52x which the 4550 recognizes only at 32x or even 16x only.
Firmware-Updates and MediaCodeSpeedEdit seem to be for DVD-Media only, so I have given it up very soon to burn CD-R/CD-RW Media on my 4550.

It’s not that easy, I think.

Some media is just not worth to be burnt at higher speeds. Some manufacturers doesn’t care, just allowing any speed with terrible results in the end…
Othe rmanufacturers perform extensive tests before implementing write speeds and stratgeies into their firmwares.
