Does any one know where either to get an installtion disc for the above or alternatively to download the contents. I bought one second had and there was not a cd included.
Please help if you can.

Welcome to the forum

I have the same drive, and no installation CD is needed as such - just plug it in and go.

Unless you’re talking about a disc with burning software on, as often comes with burners - like a cut-down version of Nero, for example.

I don’t have a link to such a stripped-down version of Nero, but there are plenty of free burning softwares for you to choose from, if you don’t want to purchase a full burning software package:

CDBurnerXP
ImgBurn
DVD Flick

These are a few free ones that I could come up with off the top of my head. If that is indeed what you’re after.

Doesn’t start as in there’s no power going to it (i.e. it doesn’t open or the green LED doesn’t light up when you hit the eject button on the unit)?

Has it worked at all since you got it? If not, and you got it recently, then (other than spanking the drive ), I’d go back to the person you bought it off.

Trying it else where would be a good idea in any case, though.

Again a big thank you for your help. I found the problem bad connection. Works fine now. Maybe the spanking did help as well.

I’ve been trying to download a dvd to the rewriter
It says the download is 2.1 gb
My disc says 16x 4.7 gb but program says not enough space
Do I need to do something to the box to make it record at 16x
Or am I just being stupid

Hmmm, regarding the “not enough space” message - are you converting an .avi file (or other video file) to regular DVD format? Video files can often take up more disc space than you’d expect once converted - what program are you using?

As for the 16x thing, being that the drive is USB, the actual real-world burn speed you’ll be able to achieve can vary - most of the time due to the chipset on the drive’s enclosure, or the chipset on your PC’s motherboard. For example, my own Dell motherboard has an Intel chipset, and even with that I can’t go higher than 12x on the LG drive.

What’s the highest burn speed you’re actually getting?

You’re not being stupid BTW, these things aren’t made very obvious when you’re using a drive via USB, unless you dig around for the info beforehand.

You try to burn something on DVD using your dvd writer, not downloading…
What is it that is 2.1gb big? A file which is mpeg, avi or just an image?

Yes I was burning a daniusoft converted video
Its suffix is vob if that helps

.vob is just ONE file from a bunch of a dvd video structure in mpeg2 format.
To create a proper video dvd you need also the referring .ifo and .bup file(s) or you must author a video dvd using this .vob file.

That’ll be the problem ;)…I use ConvertXtoDVD for any conversion I need to do, and when I load my file into it, generally it tells you beforehand what the size is going to be on the disc, once converted. Having not used Daniusoft programs, I’m not sure if it gives you the same info or not.
