Disadvantages… umm… price? This byatch costs a grand! You’d save about 300 bucks just buying one of each. Like DVD+R and DVD-R, it is almost certain that eventually all players will be combo units. But until then, why waste the money? Buy whatever one you are moved by today for $200-$500, and replace it down the road with a combo unit when they’re 200 bucks each. Why worry which format will win right now? The only reason I can think that this would not happen is if somehow the Blu-Ray format dies, since blu-ray is apparently much more expensive to make than HD-DVD players due to the technology. But it seems rational that as production costs continue to decline, anyone producing the more expensive blu-ray players will just add a relatively old-school HD-DVD laser in there for a few bucks and have everyone as a potential customer.

This will most likely be like my Pioneer Elite DVD Player with Laserdisc Build in. The Laserdisc is of no use anymore. The HD DVD will be of no use in matter of month
