LG GSA4040 version A302

I found that A302 is out for the 4040. But I could only find it on de.lge.com, is it going to be in english? I did not open the Zip yet.

Anyone updated to this one yet?

Your drive will be in English.
You can also download the A302 Update here from LGE Canada.

I see you have A302, did you update to it or buy it that way?

I updated it from A300 --> A301 --> A302

Make sure you read the README.TXT before updating.

There is also A302 RPC1 BETA version for download here. (At your own risk.)

I was going to ask… [Yes, At my own risk- ] Is it worth using the hacked firmwares? Can I revert back or upgrade to the official versions after using a hacked firmware?

If you got another DVD-ROM that is RPC1, I see no use of the hacked FW for the LG.

And yes, you can recover back to the official FW with the normal LG flasher. (It have failed for some people though).

But make SURE that the hacked FW have to be flashed in PURE DOS. (Bootdisk)

If you still have questions about the hacked FW then email The Dangerous Brothers. They need the feedback.

a small question regarding the secondary ide master, I’ve updated the firmware with the LG-GSA4040B as slave on my primary ide.

The program ran fine, update listed as ok, and after a reboot it’s listed as A302.

As long as the firmware flash progam tells it’s flashed successfully, there is no need to open the box to connect the dvd drive as master on secondary ide and rerun the flash!?

(nero 6303 refuses to acknowledge that the burner can burn at 4x )

If your drive are listed as A302, there is no need to reflash the drive.

You need to insert a compatible 4x media - nero will give you the option 1x, 2x, 2,4x and max speed if there is NO media present in the drive. (At least it does that to me).

Hope it works out for you.

darn!

guess it’s the www.thatswrite.com dvd -r’s it’s not willing to acknowledge then…

must be something differenent with this new 25 pack… tried “downgrading” and updraging nero back and forth a bit with no luck… burnt some 4 packs at 4x earlier

so for other ppl out there, thatswrites dvd-r 4x might, … or might not work at 4x

Dowload DVDINFOProâ„¢ and get the Media Information on your disc to see what the Available Write Descriptor is.

Example:

hmm heres what dvdinfo says about the dvd-r from www.thatswrite.com:
Media Information
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID VANGUARD
Format Capacity 4.19GB(4.49GB)
Book Type DVD-R
Media Type DVD-R
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

so it seems the records are 4x but nero do not like them :frowning:

any ideas on how to get around this? other burn software? any idea accepted

edit: checked one of the older dvd -r’s that I know was burnt ok on 4x and got this:

                        Media Information

Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID PRINCO
Format Capacity 4.17GB(4.47GB)
Book Type DVD-R
Media Type DVD-R
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

so seems they use different ‘suppliers’ and now I also noticed the CLV values … damn pr**ks!!

It looks like the LG only want to write this media at 2x.

It could be that Vanguard manufactured media are low price & low quality media. (I have personly not come across this media, so I can not say it for sure).

A friend has the NEC 1300 with latest firmware, 10a,… that one read the records as having both the 4x and 2x CLV write descriptor
… so for those with nec 1300 burners out there, www.thatswrite.com DVD-R 4X works for those…

now the darn wait for a new firmware for the LG 4040b :frowning:

A303 is out

Take a look here regarding the A303 (D303)
