LG GSA-H10N - Unable to write DVD-R

I have an LG GSA-H10N and I have tried to write a DVD-R with it for the first time today but it always gives an error about not being able to write the disc. I have searched on google and have tried all the solutions that I was able to find but neither of them worked. Also when I go to my computer and to the drive, which appears as a CD drive and not a DVD-RAM drive, it always shows 0 used bytes and 0 free bytes. It has done this with all the DVD-R that I have tried. When I try to add a file to the DVD from Explorer it gives a file error 16389. Below you will find the Nero 7 log. Thank you for your time and help.

You may want to post this in the LG forum. You can find it in the Forum jump at the bottom of the page. Actually I dont’ think you can double post maybe a moderater will move it for you. Probally get more responses there. I think I have this drive I use ImgBurn with no problems. You may want to give it a try it’s free, and if you like it donate a couple of bucks so it can be constantly updated. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Hi Conoclast and welcome to CDfreaks. As suggested I moved this thread to the LG DVD burner forum.

crossg: thanks for the welcome and for moving this thread

wheelz: ImgBurn looks great but it doesn’t burn the DVD-R either although it can actually read how many free bytes there are on the DVD-R unlike Explorer. Below is the log from when it was opened and when trying to burn the DVD-R.

This is normal. Windows has a bug in it which causes it to show DVD writers as CD drives. This probably has something to do with the fact that it uses the same set of drivers for both types of drives. This isn’t the cause of your problems. My DVD writers show up as CD drives too, and they burn fine.

You cannot burn to DVD discs from explorer (without using 3rd party packet writing software). The reason being that Windows XP does not have a built in engine for DVD burning from explorer, although it does have one for CD burning. For the same reason, you cannot browse a blank DVD disc in explorer as that also needs the functionality of a built in DVD burning engine.

Have you tried using different media with your writer before? I’m not sure how well the H10N handles PRODISCF01 media and that could be the cause of your problems.

No as a matter of fact I haven’t. I will buy some different media tomorrow and I’ll let you know how it turned out. Thanks

Shouldn’t this be added to a FAQ? It’s asked like three times a week!

Thanks karangguni I have tried a different media and it burns successfully with image burn (Thanks to wheelz for suggesting the software, I love it). Thanks for your help

A good point but the thing is it’s not an LG specific issue - it’s how windows behaves with all DVD writers. It probably belongs in some generic burning problem FAQ.

Thanks.
