LG GSA H10N offers strange writing speeds on DVD+R

Hi,

just wondering if anybody has ever tried one of those odd writing sppeds like 11x or 15x. Any idea if they are basically different to 12x or 16x? Any better? More checking? Or simply a little bit slower?

cu,

Jackie

That is really strange! Do you have any other burning software you use? If you do, see if it shows these strange burn speeds too. I’m guessing it might be a bug in CD Speed of some sort.

Nero CDSpeed 4.51.3 & Nero Burning ROM 6.6.1.4:

it’s probably just a minor bug (?) in CDSpeed.

16x is exactly 22160 kB/s
22159 kB/s is 15.999277978339350180505415162455x so…

it’s very simple to test this really, i just don’t have the time.

what i’d really like to know is:
if i choose 16x (for instance) in Nero, which of the 2 speed descriptors/writing strategies listed by DVD Identifier does it choose ?

It will choose the one that the firmware has a writestrategy in it for that specific media.

doesn’t the firmware have write strategies for both speed descriptors ?

I don’t think so. There should be one write strategy per burn speed in the firmware per media code. I suspect it is a just bug in the way most burning programs (and DVD Identifier) show two burn speeds for LG writers. My earlier 4163B always shows two 8x write speeds for DVD+R discs, even with CD Speed 4.51.1. It never made a difference which one I selected when I burned discs. I think DVD Identifier shows the same thing too. It’s probably more of the same thing with the H10N.

I can also confirm this at 12x speeds too, just did a test for MCC004 (16x media) on the GSA-4163 to check. Despite what some others had said, both options 1 and 2 for the 12x speed resulted in p-CAV burns, none did z-CLV.
