what do i do?

i bought this LG SUPER MULTI DVD DRIVE(GSA-4167b) around jan 06… and put it into my system…

1st time i burned a dvd worked finee. but ever since the first burn it hasnt been able to burn anything else?!!?

any one help? my friend came over and try burning 5 dvd+r all failed! i tried burning 5 cd-r all failed… and now i burn 10 dvd all failed…

i try burning it on high speed first… then lowest… then i went and download the firmware… still didnt work… it just made the max. burn speed higher from 8x to 12x… i turn off all programs… restarted computer hundred of times… turn all anti-virus programs off and firewall… i can put games and music on my comp no problem! but when i burn it doesnt do anything!

im using nero 7 for burning… and everytime it gives me this error

i have no clue why its not working?? i bought it FRESH from memory express.

any help will be much appreciated! i just wanna save my stuff… so i can reformat my whole comp! thanks in advance!!

i put everything on dma mode

i tried memorex & fuji & maxell discs… none work except for the first time which was memorex!

In order of likelyhood

  1. IDE cable
  2. Bad drive
  3. Bad IDE controller

A small hint : it might be cheaper to use RW discs for tests. That way you can erase and reuse instead of wasting a disc for each test.

ok i got this thing to work… i kept burning the same thing… and for some reason it wont let me burn it… episoids of this show… but i go burn a differnt show and it lets me… i burn some movies too and its all good… some movies it wont let me burn… and my picutres and videos it wont also? any of u kno why that is?

You have 7.0.1.3 according to the log, which is not the latest version. Get 7.0.8.2.

Just checked Nero. Latest version is 7.2.0.3.

Download and use 7.2.0.3.

You can only burn a dvd-movie with Nero, that is not CSS encrypted.

What’s the chipset off your motherboard. Nvidia or Via drivers could give you the troubles you have.

Be sure to use Microsoft native ide drivers.

Change the IDE cable to a new.

Use Nero CD-DVD Speed and create a testdisc.

Look, this is a hardware data integrity issue, related to the burst data rate over the cable. It is not going to be changed by screwing around with the software or the write speed of the disc.

The following was the most intelligent comment so far

For Ultra DMA you need to be using an 80 conductor cable, a good one, and not one of these stupid round cables.

You could try to drop down the UDMA mode being used, this will limit the burst data rate on the cable. You could also drop into a Multi Word (MW) DMA mode which doesn’t use a CRC, but that might just mask the problem.

We have also seen this behaviour on a defective IDE controller (design flaw).

Generally, try not to mix drives with very different modes on the same IDE cable (ie a CDROM that only supports PIO4 with a DVD Burner that supports UDMA2). This isn’t the case here looking at the log file.

Not to be an ass, but they really didn’t hit the target. No one explicity stated the need for an 80 conductor cable, although that might have been their intent.

You only need a 80 conductor cable, if your drive support udma4 and you want the drive to run in udma4.

A 40 conductor cable are fine for udma2.

The 80 conductor cable is electrically quieter in ALL transfer modes. In a single drive application the drive should be connected to the far end of the cable, with the near end connected to the motherboard/controller.

The 40 conductor cable might be adequate for UDMA2 in some situations, given the choice we’d take the 80.

The 40 conductor cable are adequate for optical devices.

A 16x burn take 22 Mb/s and udma2 gives you 33 Mb/s.

I use 40 conductor cable with no trouble.

I have use a 80 conductor cable for testing and no difference in burnquality at all.
