LG GSA-4167 stopped burning! Mayday!

Hello,

I’m writing this thread as my last hope, otherwise I’m really thinking of burning my LG burner, because - pardon me - I’ve had enough with LG.

I have LG GSA-4167 burner, I’ve been burning DVDs & CDs regularly, but at some point, it stopped burning DVD Img files, after that it stopped burning CDs, and after that is even stopped burning DVDs, which to sum up, stopped burning at all! At the time, I formatted my computer, and when i reinstalled MS Windows XP (SP2), it went back to normal, but then 1-2 months later, it would get to the same problem.

I’ve been using Nero, I tried reinstalling it - didn’t help, I tried using the demo version from their site - didn’t help either, I even tried to use ImgBurn, and the result was the same.

So now I’m stuck with an LG DVD burner that doesn’t burn, and a HD that is full, yet if I format and reinstall my OS, it would burn again. So my early guess is that the problem is not a hardware one.

Please if you know any way to help me, that would be great and greatly appreciated, if I can’t find a solution for this, I might just go buy a new burner, which frankly I’m not inclined to do, but if I had to, I would.

Thanks in advance anyways.

Regards.

What does it say??? Is there any error log it is producing? If yes, can you post it so the forum members are able to understand the problem in depth and well can help you in that case.

If the hard drive is full then that might be your problem (not enough space to copy or burn) you might need to delete some movies or cd’s from your hard drive if you have any on it, and then clean the registry and do a defrag to see if that helps and maybe get a larger hard drive

Hello,

Thank you for your replies, and I apologize for my late reply, I’m just busy with my finals.

Anyways, for some reason it burns now data DVD, and I even burned an Img, but there’s a new problem now, when I try to burn a large file (4.37 GB), it doesn’t burn at all (like the old problem), although I used UDF file system when burning… when I look at ‘Writing Lead-In…’ I see 0% (level buffer), and there’s no progress. I’ve even tried ImgBurn to burn the very same large file, and it didn’t burn at all, in fact I didn’t succeed in burning anything using ImgBurn, but it’s crazy with Nero, sometimes it burns, sometimes it doesn’t.

I’m sorry I can’t post a log, because I do simulation, and it didn’t give me any log. Plus, it would take more than an hour while doing simulation (with no progress) so eventually I cancel it.

I hope you have an idea for this new problem, and hopefully someone have an answer.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I tried Nero 7, and with some patience I was able to save the log

Okay, I’ve reached a dead end. I’ve tried to burn 4.37 GB file using Nero 6 & UDF, and this is what I got:

I’m really feeling like a total newbie, I’ve tried everything, from related to the problem to far far away to silly. Now it does burn data DVD, but it doesn’t burn large files, which tells me that the problem is not with the hardware, and in the same time I’m not sure because sometimes it doesn’t burn at all, but again, it might be something in the setting, I don’t really know, I can’t think of anything. I tried also ImgBurn, and it didn’t work at all, I didn’t succeed in burning anything with ImgBurn, which basically drives me nuts.

At least I need to know it it’s a hardware problem, if so I’d go buy a new burner, but I don’t want to do that while it’s not hardware, so I won’t find myself in the same situation.

I’m sorry if I’m causing any inconvenience or if I’m sounding dumb, but I’ve had it with this issue, not to mention that it’s a really bad time.

I look forward to any pertinent suggestion.

Think Jimbo has answered your question. If your hard drive is nearly full - you will not be able to burn large files/movies.

Recommended that you have at least 10GB free space for encoding and burning DVD’s.
